Happy Birthday! I’m confused by this statement. “And knowing how the new American administration has begun to govern, I worry that they are the only ones who are really learning from history; the warning cries of our educators seem to be the guiding light for our now-in-power politicians.” Who is “they” is in this sentence?
Hey Pam. Sorry for the delay in response. By "they," I'm referring to many of the politicians (and those closest to them) who are working to dismantle our democratic systems. Just like we can learn from history how to protect our civil liberties, there are just as many examples of what it takes to tear them apart. Timothy Snyder (@snyder) has been writing about this in recent months and is a leading expert on the matter.
